Yves Rocher Sebo Vegetal Purifying Cleansing gel

Yves Rocher is a brand which I had been spotting from a long time in Shopper Stop, but never stepped into their display, thinking it would be too expensive. And somehow I would get swooned over by the SA and end up spending a lot of money. But to my surprise when I spotted them in Nykaa, I was quite surprised to see that these are actually affordable. I would not say that they are budget friendly but still one can easily loosen their purse string for them.  They have the similar price tag like The Body Shop products. So I got couple of products and today I have a post about this face wash, which I never expected that I would end up loving so much despite its SLS content.
Yves Rocher Sebo Vegetal line is meant for oily and acne prone skin. These products has an unique ingredients called the "Baikal powder" which is quite new to me. Internet research tells me that this Baikal powder is extracted from a flowering plant called Baikal Skullcap, used extensively in Chinese medicine for many ailments like hay fever, kidney infections, scarlet fever and so many other diseases.

This is also used for the treatment of skin related issues like irritated skin, allergies, rashes along with psoriasis. It does gives cleansing effect to skin and also tones it. Exactly what the company claims it to do. This eliminates excess sebum, impurities, traces of makeup and purifies skin.

The formula has 93% of ingredients from natural origin, is silicone, paraben and mineral oil free. All these are a major selling point for me. What I dislike, probably the only issue is that this contains SLS. This is made is France, so the quality of ingredients and water would be of high standards. Somehow I have good faith on French made skincare products despite them having SLS and SLeS in some of them.

Priced at Rs 750 for 125 ml
Available online at Nykaa and also at Shoppers Stop.

My experience and thoughts

The formula is a clear aqueous gel like, lightweight and smells very fresh like that of cucumber water. The formula does not lather or foam, rather forms a slippery whitish texture (exactly like how oil cleansers emulsifies with water on skin) with little tiny bubbles when rubbed in between wet palms. It does not lather on face as well.

When applied on wet skin, it dissolves all dirt, oiliness, any last traces of sunscreen, foundation, mascara, eye shadows etc. I usually go over twice when I have lot going on my face to thoroughly cleanse my face. Since there is no lather or foam, I can literally see dirt wash off skin on my white wash basin, as the water turns a shade pale brown. Please note that this would not cleanse heavy cake make up or any waterproof make up. Its better to cleanse with an oil or cleansing balm first before using it. Or else, you would end up wasting a lot of product.

After wash my skin feels very fresh and thoroughly cleansed. When I go over it with  La Roche Posay or Vichy or Innisfree Bija Trouble skin toner ( I have tested with all three ) I rarely get any traces of dirt and grime on the cotton wool. My skin does feel a bit taut when dried and I think this due to the presence of SLS, but never dry. This could probably also be due to the fact that I am testing during colder months when skin usually feels dry even if you wash it with plain water. It never irritated my sensitive skin, never irritated my acne and is extremely gentle too. Honestly, this is the most gentle face wash I have ever used till date, even gentler than the cult favorite Just Herbs Silksplash. I have literally fallen in love with the face wash and have truly found a new favorite.

Overall, I think this an excellent face wash, though a bit pricey. The presence of SLS might be a put off for some ( including me ), but trust me I know that I am allergic to sulfates and any SLS or SLeS containing face wash has always irritated my skin. Surprisingly this did not. May be the purity of the compound used in the formula is better. So, I definitely recommend this to any one suffering from acne and has a sensitive skin. I am sure you would love this too.

  1. Love this cleansing gel also. The SLS you mentioned and contained here is not the SLS you were thinking. This one has Sodium Laureth Sulfate which is actually the good sulphate, compared to the SLS you were thinking that is Sodium Lauryl Sulfate aka the bad SLS.
