Dr Wheatgrass Superbalm multi-purpose soother review

Wheat grass procured from common wheat plant is highly enriched with vitamins, minerals, amino acids and enzymes having variety of health benefits. In most medicine stores I have spotted wheat grass to be sold in powder form, as juice and even as supplement tablets. I always thought wheat grass is a power food providing array of health benefits. But what I was not aware was that this has great healing properties and it can heal anything from cuts, wounds, muscle sprain, skin diseases and even acne. I had never seen wheat grass in a lotion base before until I stumbled across this brand from Australia called Dr. Wheatgrass.
Dr Chris Reynolds a general physician from Australia, the brain child behind this brand wanted to bring the amazing properties of wheat grass to every household in the form of balms, lotions, sprays and even supplements. Wheat grass juice factor stimulates growth factor that aid in skin recovery, regulates immune system, blood production and hormonal functions. Wheat grass when consumed facilitates body's ability to repair itself from within. It is efficient to cure most gruesome of diseases like molluscum, diabetic foot ulcer, anal fissure. The brand's wheat grass shots have even helped cancer patients during their chemotherapy. It is great for irritable bowl syndrome also. This I know from my mother's friend, she intakes wheatgrass powder for her irritable bowl syndrome. I was amazed with all the case studies that Dr Chris Reynolds had published in the webpage.

Dr Wheat grass extract is very potent  and it is extracted from young, vital, organically grown wheat grass sprouts. Their closely guarded extraction process yields 25% more antioxidants and bioflavonoids than freshly juiced wheat grass. Thus making their products more efficient in treating wounds and skin diseases of all sorts.

I was sent 4 sample sachets of their Superbalm multi-purpose soother, and I mostly used them on my acne and cuts and burns.

About the product

The product is a white runny liquid which spreads a lot. You need a very little quantity. This smells a bit like plastic, there is no added fragrance. It is the active ingredients in a lotion base and that's it. This is not a beauty product hence no fuss on packaging and fragrance is given. I am glad that no fragrance is added, sometimes synthetic fragrance can hinder the efficacy of active ingredients.

In the swatch above, I have taken as little product as possible, because I did not want to waste any of it.

Buy it from their Indian website
Price : Rs 2440 for 160 ml

My experience

I have an acute cystic acne problem. It was all better and my skin had recovered from it. But couple of months ago I had tried a particular Korean Sheet Masks from Skin18.com and don't know what happened after that I am suffering from the worst acne break out of my entire life. Some chemicals in it had made my skin react in a very bad way which I am just not recovering from. Acne just keeps popping up and I am trying every single thing to stop my skin from breaking out. I have stopped using any of those masks. So the below before and after picture is not pretty. I still have many acne on my face. The ones which have healed  with this product I have pointed them with arrows.

On acne

Initially I used the Superbalm as a moisturizer all over my face. It spreads a lot so a small quantity is enough. From day one of use I noticed that my active acne was itching which to me translates as it is healing. In the next couple of days the pain was gone totally. The bumps were getting smaller in size and by the end of a week the bumps reduced remarkably. But new ones kept popping up. This did not stop acne from popping up. Since it is not a beauty cream, it did not give my face any glow, no hydration, somehow my face was looking really dull. My friends kept telling me that my skin was looking really dull. So I stopped using this as moisturizer and started using this only as a spot treatment. That really helped, it really healed my acne faster, but it did not reduce the scars faster. If you get acne on your cheeks, it is mostly because you are using products having comedogenic ingredients, meaning ingredients which clogs pores. In between I had fallen ill, due to which I got more acne, and I used up all the samples that I had received as spot treatment. Now I am using La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo as moisturizer and it is helping me in getting rid of scars and also I am not getting such horrible breakouts like before.

On cuts and wounds

The A4 sheet paper edges can be quite sharp. I was sorting print outs for some bank work and got a paper cut on my finger. It was bleeding and paining so I applied some Superbalm on it. The bleeding stopped within minutes and by the next day the pain was completely gone. It works really well on cuts and wounds. It also healed a minor burn I got while cooking. I do not have any before or after pics for those.

This is really expensive in India, Rs 2440 for 160 ml is like Rs 15 for 1 ml. But is lasts long. The 3 ml sachet lasted me a week when I was applying all over my face. As spot treatment all the 4 samples lasted for more than a month, and I was applying daily on multiple acnes twice a day. So one tube will last you for a year depending upon your usage as well. I feel this is a multipurpose balm that you should have in your first aid kit. It heals faster and it made of all natural ingredients, there is no side effect at all for this. You can use this for any kind of skin problem you have like eczema, psoriasis etc. It also helps in muscle pains, cramps. Its an all purpose superhero product, one of its kind. I definitely recommend this.
