DIY : A quick simple very effective healthy mix hair oil

Sunday, June 21, 2015

I usually do not apply any hair oil which is mineral oil based with added essential oils, or vitamins etc. I somehow feel that they are not the real deal. Let me share with you all a healthy mix of oil that is the simplest of all DIY. This was actually suggested to me by my best friend a long time ago when I used to cry to her regularly about my hair problems when in Bangalore. She had informed me that her sister was going through the same problem, a problem called Telogen Effluvium and a dermatologists had recommended this healthy mix oil to her rather than some nasty drugs.

Read on to find the benefits this mix of oil gives ..

Ingredients ~

All you need to make this are :

  • Coconut oil.
  • Castor oil.
  • Sweet almond oil.
  • An empty bottle ( I am re-using the The Body Shop Moringa Body Wash Bottle. TBS bottles and jars are of highest quality of plastic and they are so re-usable )

Please note that all the oils you use are of highest of quality, edible and at its purest form. All the brands you see above provide edible oils, which are easily available in the market. If you want to have a luxe version of this then try to get all these three oils in distilled cold pressed version. They are bit expensive but extremely beneficial. There are many brands available in the market who sells cold pressed oils.

Coconut Oil ~

We all are well aware of how good coconut oil is for hair. Since we were kids, this was probably the only oil being used as a hair oil by all. My mother used to swear by this and so did I. Below are benefits :

  • It contains Lauric acid which prevents hair from damage.
  • Coconut oil has the highest moisture retaining capacity, it does not let moisture escape, hence your hair is always moist and soft. Thus preventing hair breakage, making it strong.
  • Prevents hair loss
  • It has cooling effect, hence keeps scalp calm.
  • When mixed with Castor oil and applied, it helps prevent dandruff resulting in less hair fall.
  • It helps prevent greyness and baldness

Castor Oil ~

If you are suffering from constipation, mix a tablespoon full of castor oil in warm milk, it will help a lot. But here I am going to tell you how good this oil is for hair growth. I have seen my mother apply this on to her brows to thicken it.

  • Castor Oil has Omega 6 fatty acids, this boost blood circulation in hair follicles and helps with hair regrowth and preventing hair loss.
  • Helps in darkening the hair
  • Works in an antifungal and antibacterial and prevents dandruff.
  • Reduces split ends and hair breakage.

Sweet Almond Oil ~

Sweet almond oil is very rich in Vitamin A, B1, B6 and E. I use this oil quite often to remove my eye make up also as a body oil during the winters.

  • Sweet almond oil acts as a hair protector, it seals in moisture to prevent moisture loss.
  • It makes hair shiny and healthy.
  • Acts as a good serum / conditioner after hair wash.
  • Helps in preventing split ends.

So when all of these oils are mixed together and applied regularly on scalp and hair, this helps to overcome many of the hair troubles.

You should take equal quantity of all three oils and pour it in a clean bottle. Shake the bottle well to well combine all the oils and store it in a cook dark place.

How to apply ~

Take the quantity of oil depending on your requirement. I take around 1 tablespoon in a small bowl. I always warm up the oil by placing it in hot water. Warm oils penetrates hair shafts and roots well. If you do not have that time, then just rub the oil between your palms to warm it a bit before applying. I dab the warm oil with cotton wool all over my scalp and then message it in with my finger tips. Then spread the remaining oil all over the length of my hair. I keep the oil overnight and shampoo the next day.

You might require a bit extra quantity of your SLS/SLES free shampoo to completely remove the oil from your hair. Apply the oil the night before your shampoo and see it doing wonders for your hair.

Try this, I am sure you would not be disappointed.

Love,
Shampita
